2023 Community Award Honorees

The 2023 Phi Upsilon Zeta Chapter Woman of the Year Award is presented to Bernadette Carroll. Bernadette Carroll is the co-founder and partner of HigherMark Consulting, a management consulting company, where she serves as a trusted advisor to prominent corporate and nonprofit organizations. She is a sought-after speaker, writer, author and award­ winning marketer. Having received industry marketing awards and honors from Travelocity, CARFAX, Mizkan Foods, and others for her work in building and promoting brands.

Bernadette brings 15+ years of multi-industry and consulting experience to her engagements, working with senior executives and leadership teams to enhance customer experiences. Bernadette has aligned her passion with her purpose - empowering women to love themselves and live their best life now through her platform, Your Life Matters Too™ (YLMT). YLMT is where Bernadette shares her story about the power of God's amazing love and her full-circle approach to achieving happiness and well-being through the connection of mind, body & soul.

As the founder and organizer of the life-changing Power Up Women's & Teens Conference, Bernadette brings together mastermind speakers from across the nation, all with one goal - empowering women and teens. Power Up Women’s Conference will be celebrating 10 years next March 2024.

Bernadette believes in celebrating the lives and work of other women in and around the community. This act of gratitude is portrayed in her conference as she seeks to honor, recognize and celebrate other women for their contributions to the world. In 2016, Bernadette was nominated ChangeMaker at the United State of Women Summit at The White House.

Bernadette is a loving wife and mother of two wonderful children. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Psi Rho Omega Chapter Loudoun County, Jack & Jill of America Inc., Northern Virginia Chapter, and the Society Inc. She is also a member of Heritage Fellowship Church.

The 2023 Phi Upsilon Zeta Chapter Community Service Award is presented to Tammy P. Carter. Tammy P. Carter has been involved in presidential inauguration activities for President Barack Obama, served on the Bluemont Board of Directors from 2011-2018 and fundraising events such as First Night Leesburg, Summer Concerts, and Galas. Since 2014, she has served as Vice- President of the Malone Foundation and was the first Black board member. She also implemented the  Family Cookout Day and increased the number of scholarships awarded to students in Loudoun County. Additionally , she formed the first Booster club, “NOVA PAC”, for the Dance Academy of Loudoun. 

 

Tammy was instrumental in the historical placement of the 14 Memorial Stones in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 5th, 2011, from the courthouse to Douglass School in Leesburg, VA. She was also influential in the January 2019 placement of the Martin Luther King, Jr. statue designed by Jeff L. Hall in the lobby of the Leesburg Town Hall building which remained on display during Black History Month.

 

Tammy includes among her awards being the 1st recipient of the Loudoun Hospital Leadership Award; Marketing Education Training for Stonebridge High School 2001-2002 awardee, Marketing Education Training for Heritage High School 2003-2004 awardee, Who’s Who VIP Award Honored member of Cambridge Executives, Entrepreneurs Award Who’s Who VIP Award Cambridge – registry of Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs 2008. She was the 2019 Community Pearl recipient awarded by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Psi Rho Omega Chapter Loudon County, Virginia and the Trailblazer Award for 2019.
